Another Vlog about Books

Here I am yet again going on (and on) about a couple of books that I recommend.  I seem to have more problems forming coherent thoughts in this video, but just know that all three books are extremely good and I think everybody should read them.

Gas Scare + Music By Balls!

Howdy readers,

So if any of you are avid CNN watchers/readers, you might know that Nashville is experiencing a gas shortage.  Why?  Because people are stupid.  Someone started a rumor that there was going to be a gas shortage, people panicked, and made the shortage come true by buying it all up.  Way to go people.  Yesterday my hubby and I went downtown to watch the Hawkeye game (ugh, don’t even get me started on THAT one), and we drove by a gas station that had its pumps closed and no gas price advertisements.  Then a few minutes later we drove by another gas station that had a line for the pumps that was a couple of blocks long.  Then I get home and google Nashville, and I get a story by CNN about how there is a gas shortage, but only in Nashville.  Now there’s no gas until more is delivered on Monday or Tuesday, which isn’t that big a deal, but geez.  It was kind of weird though, because I just read the first 12 chapters of The Hunger Games, and I was all like…ahhhhh, the first thing to go is the gas and next they’ll take away our electricity!  And on that note, I’m living basically in District 12…don’t believe me, here’s a map of Appalachia according to wikipedia.

Here’s the link if you care to read: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/09/19/nashville.gas/

On an unrelated note, check out this fun video!

Is Anybody Else Excited?

I am way excited for a little movie called Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.  I read the book last fall and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it.  When I found out Michael Cera was going to be in the movie, I knew that I would be first in line to see it (even though he is completely wrong for the part of Nick, but I would watch him in anything so it doesn’t matter).  It’s been a pretty crappy couple of weeks, but watching this trailer makes me feel all better and also forget for a few minutes that I have to work tomorrow.

Sitting on the bookshelf

So I finally saw the video for She and Him’s “Why do you let me stay here” and love love loved it; although since their album has pretty much been playing consistently on my iPod for half a year and I like everything except Nickelback and that movie “The Hills Have Eyes,” that is no surprise. Ever since Elf, I have wanted more Zooey singing. Dreams really do come true.

gee ::all wide eyed and innocent:: it was like this video was made just for me to like it: the retro dresses, the lighthearted death scenes, the cute ghosts, the smiling! I want to be Zooey Deschanel.

wait, no I want to imagine what books I would have read if I was Zooey Deschanel.

She has read:
all books by Roald Dahl
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Sitting in the Club Car Drinking Rum and Karma Kola by Paulette Jiles
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

Hmmm, if I am going to be a librarian I need to learn to talk about books I haven’t read; the only one in that list I am not familiar with is Lolita, and that is such a classic that I have practically read it (haha, I just thought to myself “I would know more about it if Wishbone had covered it…wait bad idea…”). Oooh, I love all those books, and since I love Zooey’s music the logic is that she would love those books, too. I hope she googles herself and sees this blog and then is like “Nerdgirltalking is awesome, I am going to make them M.Ward and my back-up dancers and pose with them in a READ poster!” and it would be the highlight of my life. Whoa, American Library Association, if you are listening, why doesn’t Zooey have her own read poster yet?!!!

I wished upon a star and I got 27 dresses

Ok, so I was once again searching on Amazon to see if Salute Your Shorts, the best Nickelodeon show ever (besides Spongebob Squarepants), was issued on DVD yet. Uh, no it has not. (Why oh why has it not? um, doesn’t Nickelodeon like money? because they would definitely make a profit, honey) Anyway, so then I clicked on that little devil feature of Amazon’s–“What do customers ultimately buy after viewing this item”—Ahhhhh, I wanted all of it: Clarissa Explains it All, The Secret World of Alex Mack, The Adventures of Pete and Pete….and then I saw a little movie called Wish Upon a Star.

My thought process:
Oooh, I loved that movie, especially the white knee socks…huh, wait…is that Katherine Heigl on the cover? IT IS. omigosh, I think I knew that all along.

Oh. My. Gosh. Hilarity Ensues.

Hey readers,

I know that you all are probably way upset still about the whole Half Blood Prince being delayed till 2009 catastrophe like me.  I found this link off of mental floss (check it out, I love that site!), watched it and almost fell off the couch I was laughing so hard.  I know that Hitler is bad and evil and terrible…but…I can’t help but laugh.  Hopefully none of you are offended.

It’s International Chocolate Day!!!

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy International Chocolate Day!!!  I am going to celebrate by finishing off my ice cream and maybe even the Girl Scout cookies that I still have left.  It really isn’t surprising that I still have some after how many boxes I bought.  I am trapped inside today because my apartment complex’s lawn and parking lot is flooded.

I feel pretty cozy because I don’t think it will actually flood any of the buildings and I have already moved my car to higher ground (that was fun, let me tell you).  I have decided to approach it as an adventure, since many people all over the country are dealing with much worse things right now.  The sound of the rain is soothing and it is pretty amusing to watch people slog through the water to move their cars (I’m sure it was hilarious to watch me).  Right now two guys are playing catch with a football and having a ball diving into the “lake.”

Here are some pics.

Have a great Saturday and eat some chocolate for me!

“Or Am I Caught In A Hit And Run”

So I had a pretty good morning preparing for a work program and dancing around to wizard rock.  Then I walked out to my car and saw this:

This is very very uncool.  Granted, I live in a really scary apartment complex, so maybe I should be happy that this is the worst thing that has happened.  But it makes me so mad that I am going to have to pay for this and the person who did it is probably having a good laugh about it right now.

Funnily enough, one of the things that makes me the most upset is that they had to run into my car right where one of my HP bumper stickers was.  My friend suggested that maybe it was a Harry Potter hater who was taking out their anger on my car.  If that was the case, I am happy to have taken one for the team.

It makes me kind of wish I had my old ’91 Pontiac.  I am pretty sure the car would have just bounced off that bumper.  Darn plastic bumpers!

On a much creepier note, yesterday I was telling my co-worker that I had a bit of a sore throat.  She asked if she should practice my presentation for tonight just in case I was sick.  This is what I literally said to her, “Don’t worry, I could get struck by lightning or hit by a car and I would still come in to work tomorrow.”

As I told my dad, at least only the second part of that statement came true.

Fancy Nancy at Target!

Yesterday night I went to Target with my hubby-bubby to get a co-axial cable for a DVD player.  Then he got interested in the cameras, and needless to say, I was not interested.  So I meandered across to the children’s princess aisle.  Along with all the great princess stuff, I found Fancy Nancy items!  You don’t know who Fancy Nancy is?  You should – she’s pretty awesome.

Anyhow, at Target they had Nancy’s crown, her ballet slippers, an awesome hat, her tutu, purses, her sunglasses, a dress, and a Fancy Nancy doll! I wanted to buy every single thing I was so smitten! I seriously want to name one of my daughters Nancy now so that I can dress her up like Fancy Nancy! So cute!
