My Opinion of Mockingjay

I titled this post “my opinion” because I don’t technically think it is a review.  I am not going to tell you if the book is good or bad or whether or not you should read it, this is just what I thought after I finished the book.  My opinion is probably totally different from everyone else’s, but I don’t really care about that.

I am putting my thoughts after the jump because obviously, they are going to be filled with SPOILERS!!!!!  Continue at your own risk if you haven’t read the book!!

I MUST SEE THIS!

How could I have not heard about this movie sooner?

It looks super cute!  Check this clip out.  I dearly hope it’s in the movie in some capacity although I have a feeling it won’t be.  I don’t care though.  I can’t stop watching it and now the song’s in my head forever!

I totally watched it like 10 times before I realized that the card was in the shower with her.  I laughed hysterically for a couple of minutes at that.

Here’s the actual trailer.  I’m so going to see it in the theaters!

“Judy Blume should have prepared me for that.”  AWESOME!

And here’s another clip!

** I can’t figure out how to embed the video (it’s not a youtube one), so here is the link to the video over on mtv.com.  It’s super funny and I highly recommend clicking over and watching it! http://hollywoodcrush.mtv.com/2010/08/16/easy-a-clip/

Deathly Hallows Photos! Let’s discuss them!!

Hola buddies!  I’m listening to some Ministry of Magic right now and that’s put me in a mood to discuss the new stills from Deathly Hallows!!

OK!  So obviously this is at the Lovegood’s house.  It looks like this picture was taken after the death eaters have shown up, but I wish there was more destruction.  The room just looks dirty to me.

We’ve totally already seen this picture from one of the trailers, although in the trailer Hermione didn’t have blood on her hands.  This can only be from right after they escaped from the Ministry and Ron got splinched.    I have to say that I know everyone loved Hermione’s jacket, but… I’m not feeling it.

Is it just me or does Harry not look to into kissing Ginny?  Bonnie looks way more into it than Dan does.  Maybe that’s just the angle of this shot?  We see more of Bonnie’s face than Dan’s?  I’m totally a fan of Ginny/Harry in the books, but I can’t lie – I’m a total Harmony shipper for the movies.  Can anyone deny that they want Dan and Emma to make out?  I mean seriously, in the movies you can practically feel the chemistry between those two radiating off the screen!  But back to the photo…so…who’s getting married?  Is Bill going to be added into the movie?  And are they at a newly rebuilt Burrow?  Because as I recall, WB made the bold move of burning down their house in HBP.

OK, so this is obviously a shot of Harmony holding onto The Life and Lies of Dumbledore by Rita Skeeter.  So they have already been to Godric’s Hollow.  This photo looks super posed.  They probably could have chosen a better still for this.  Also, Harry!  Hermione!  Where are your hats/ear muffs??  And Harry, just because you don’t have a wand anymore doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be wearing gloves!

I’m going to say it.  Harry’s pants look…..funny.  I wish they had buttoned the shirt all the way on the bottom, but whatever.  I’m guessing this is a shot from when they went to the Ministry, because otherwise I have no clue.  They don’t look rough from being in the woods or fighting, etc.  Maybe this is the alley that they’re waiting in?

Death eaters at a long table?  Opening scene from the book where Voldemort AK’s Charity Burbage.  I like how all of them have their hands on the table except for Draco.  Tom Felton is so handsome!

Harry doesn’t look squashed into that side car enough to me.  Why aren’t they flying yet????

Um…what?  If Hedwig lives through the 7th movie, or they show her flying off like she is now and don’t show her getting AK’ed….I don’t know what I’ll do.  Hedwig needs to die, WB!  Don’t make me more pissed off than I already am!

And finally:

I…don’t love this photo.  My main concern is that the drawings on the house look childlike and chalky.  In the book, Harry looks at a painting that Luna did and he thought he was looking in a mirror for a second.  Luna’s better than this.  Also, I don’t love the look of Xenophilius.  His face doesn’t look old enough for me.  Whenever I picture Xenophilius, he’s old and broken down looking to me.

So what do you guys think of these pictures?  Who’s super stoked for the movie!?  What do you guys think about the break point being when Voldemort gets the Elder Wand?  I think it’s a pretty good break point – I really hope they do justice in part 2 with Snape’s memories!

Stream of Consciousness Genius or Reason I Need to Move

This guy was actually running for governor.  Or at least he was running to be the Republican candidate for the coming election.  I am dead serious here.  Some of you may recognize him from Jimmy Kimmel or The Colbert Report.  Keep in mind that I got to watch him first on my local news station (Channel 4!).

At first I laughed and then I was a bit horrified at the fact that he actually got 3,505 votes.  Yes, more than 3 people (himself, his wife and his son) voted for him.  3,502 in fact.  Seriously Tennessee?  Was it all those hipster voters who thought it would be funny to vote for him?  Was it people who seriously wanted to see other people get fined when they were found to NOT be carrying a gun?  Or possibly a bunch of criminals voted for him so that they’d be granted immunity for their crimes (because that could SO happen).

But then I realized that this man is the next Kafka (no not Mike – I highly doubt Basil could get into Northwestern OR the NFL).  Franz Kafka.  Yes, I believe Basil Marceaux is giving us a brilliant example of stream of consciousness.  I don’t think anyone could say that this man is going off a script.  I think Basil’s next step should be to write a book.  No editing, just his awesome stream of consciousness that made him an internet sensation.  I seriously think that that book would sell.  Hell, I’d buy it (or at least sit in the aisle at Borders and read it).

My Night With Rooney…There Are No Words

Okay, maybe there are some words, but it is still hard to put my bliss-filled thoughts into coherent phrases.

Yesterday was completely awesome for several reasons:

*I got off work at 2:30

*I got to hang out with fellow NerdGirl Amber

*We ate at Quizno’s which is my fave sandwich place

*I got to hear a great concert

*I also got a hug from Robert Schwartzman

Ahhhh, bliss.

That last one filled me with enough happiness to last the rest of the year.  Actually, I got a high five, he put his arm around me to take a picture, AND he hugged me.  And the whole time I resisted the urge to stroke his hair or smell his neck.

So, the concert itself was pretty cool.  I was not a real big fan of the two opening bands because the first one’s songs were waaaaaay too long and the second band was just okay.  Then Rooney came on.  Wow.  Talk about a difference.

Let me just say that I have been listening to Rooney’s music for a long time now, and I love most of their songs, but to me they have always been Michael Moscovitz’s band.  After seeing them in concert, I now know they are so much more than that.  Robert mentioned that they had been touring for 8 years, and you can totally tell.  They all work so well together and are just AMAZING to watch live.  If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, you MUST do it.

Rooney rocking out

I was worried they would sing all stuff from their new album, which I haven’t had much chance to listen to yet, but they sang tons of songs from their first CD!!!!!  I was super psyched that they sang my favorite song, “If It Were Up To Me.”  I am pretty sure I started screaming like a crazy person when they started to play it.

This was our view the whole time

So anyway, the concert was marvelous (minus the scary crazed-fan gentlemen who pushed their way to the front and kept trying to molest Robert……don’t even ask), but the best part happened after.  Amber, her friend Chelsea and I all waited around and I bought a t-shirt.  Then they came out to sign stuff and we got to talk to them!!!!!!  The whole band signed my shirt (not the one I bought, the one I was wearing) and Robert signed Amber’s Michael Moscovitz Appreciation Society button.  We talked to him for a little bit about how the band was staying in Des Moines for 2 days.  I believe I said something about how they should go to the zoo or Adventureland.  Yes, I am a complete dork, but it doesn’t matter because he gave me a hug before we left!!!!!!!!

Amber and Robert having a moment over her button

Oh, and another great part of the evening was that I got to meet Amber’s baby Lester.  What a cutie pie!!!  Let’s just say that my cats were perplexed when I came home smelling like dog.

So, the concert was great and I am literally holding myself back from skipping work on Monday and going to see them again in Des Moines.  Who’s up for it??

I Want to Live in a Tiny House!!

I was cruisin’ the Best Week Ever website this evening and came across something totally awesome.  Apparently there is a guy who literally designs (and lives in) tiny houses.  No, I am not talking about the hilarious Geico commercial from several years ago.

He actually lives in a house that is less than 100 square feet.  The tour makes it look very live-able, except for the fact that you can’t really stretch out at all.  Since I basically don’t move off the couch whenever I am at home, I think I could live in one of these houses.  If I didn’t have the cats, I could totally do it.  Plus, it is on wheels, so I could pick up and move whenever I felt like it.  The only thing that I wouldn’t like is the teeny tiny fridge.  I need room for my two gallons of milk.

How adorable is that!!!
