Mr. Banana Grabber

One of the best gifts I’ve ever given was a game my aunt, cousin, and I created for another cousin and my sister.  It’s a card game called Mr. Banana Grabber and is based on the TV show Arrested Development.  (If you’ve never watched this show, RUN to the store to buy all three seasons right now.)

Mr. Banana Grabber

The game is adapted from a Hungarian card game and involves collecting money and cards with varying amounts of bananas on them for your “Banana Stand.”   We threw in every reference to the show we could think of.  A few examples (apologies to everyone who has not yet seen the show as these will not make much sense to you):

— There are three rounds – or seasons – and in each season, at any time if you draw one of the Richter Brothers’ (Andy Richter or one of the other quintuplets) cards, you put it aside.  When the fifth Richter Brother card is drawn, that season is cancelled.

— The “Toss a Banana, Take a Buck” card.  You get to trash a banana card in someone’s Banana Stand and steal one of their Banana Bucks.

— You always start with at least one Banana Buck in your Banana Stand.  Because “There’s always money in the banana stand.”

— The “A loose seal took your hand” card.  You have to discard all of the cards in your hand.

— The “Chicken Dance” card.  Everyone has to stop and do a chicken dance.  If you don’t, you lose your money.

There’s a lot more, but those are the only ones I remember right now.  I REALLY need to make myself a copy of the game.  It is absolutely one of the best things I have ever helped make.

Have you seen Arrested Development?  When I make myself a copy, do you want to play with me?

It would probably help if I could remember the name of the Hungarian card name it was adapted from. If I find out, I will post the name in a comment!
